Esteban Spain

Hi! I'm Esteban!

About Me

I am a student at Yale University majoring in Electrical Engineering on the ABET Accredited Bachelor of Science track. I am currently researching in Rebecca Kramer-Bottiglio's lab in The Faboratory at Yale University working on the Autonomous Environmental Transitions of an Amphibious Turtle-Inspired Robot project. Alongside research, I am also an Undergraduate Learning Assistant for Yale's CPSC 100 (Harvard's CS50) Introduction to Computing and Programming. Outside of work and academics, I am the Avionics and Control Lead for Project Liquid, Yale's undergraduate team working towards designing and building a bi-propellant liquid rocket engine; aditionally, I also work on the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition team as the avionics lead working to design and launch an IREC competition rocket in June of 2024. Beyond schooling and technical projects, I play in the Yale Concert Band as the principal tenor saxophonist, I enjoy going to the observatory and doing astrophotography, and in my free time enjoy playing the drumset!

My future career goals involve working on avionics hardware and control systems for commercial launch companies. Beyond industry, I plan on pursuing a PhD and doing research within the astronautics and/or robotics fields. I love collaborating on team-based projects, taking on new challenges to improve and expand my skillset, and taking opportunities to lead and teach others.

Waterflow Test

March 2023

After 8 months of design, revision, and building of a pressure-fed bi-propellant, liquid rocket engine within Yale Project Liquid, we were able to test our system with a Water Flow Test for the first time ever and successfully proved the functionality of our first engine.
